A short history of the Church Missionary Society

Published in 1985, we have recently obtained a supply of this out-of-print book which gives a short history of CMS from its origins until the early 1980s.

Overseas work was still a new idea for British Christians when CMS was founded in 1799. Volunteers were few, money scarce, and the pioneering work abroad fraught with setbacks. But the seeds of the Gospel were gradually sown.

The exciting development of missions in Africa, India, China and beyond is chartered fully by author Jocelyn Murray, with the understanding gained from her own years as a CMS missionary. She tells of the struggles and advances, the frustrations and the joys of almost two centuries.
