Announcing the Light
Sudanese Witnesses to the GospelThe title of this book is adapted from the words of Joseph Pal Mut, a Catholic catechist with a ministry in Upper Nile. When challenged as to what lay behind his missionary journeys, he replied, “Can you announce the darkness after you have seen the Light?” That reply captures the motivation of countless men and women in Sudan who have left their homes behind, in order to preach the Gospel in places where it was previously unheard.
In Sudan, as in many parts of Africa, the Gospel was often preached and the Church planted, not by missionaries, but by national converts. Their lives had been so affected by the message they had received that they were willing to pay the cost and make the sacrifice involved in living and speaking the new message in their communities and beyond. In this book, the stories of many such men and women are told.
