Lillian Craig Harris, the descendant of several generations of Baptist missionaries, lived in Sudan from 1995-98 whilst her husband was the British Ambassador.

During her years in Sudan she travelled widely to many parts of the country. In this book, and its companion, “Keeping the Faith” (also available from CMS), she reflects on people she has encountered along the way, men and women of all walks of life, of many backgrounds, of various faiths or none. She writes with commitment and compassion, sometimes in celebration, sometimes in anger – but always with insight and with a longing for the uncovering of mercy and forgiveness in a land at war with itself.
