Emerging Mission
Christian mission is changing. No longer is the missionary white, well equipped and supported by a suburban church in Europe or North America. Today's missionary is young, black and rich only in the gifts that God has given her in mission.
It is from the global south that God sends his people to share good news to the drug addict in Russia, the affluent businessman in Tokyo and the Iranian refugee in London.
In November 2004 mission leaders from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia gathered in Bangalore, India, to consider what these changes might mean for their work.
The gathering included Orthodox priests, Anglican bishops and leaders of large lay movements in China and Armenia.
This report, edited by Mark Oxbrow and Emma Garrow, records their vision, their aspirations, their sense of God's calling and a new perspective on mission for us all.
